Distance 74km Lndranger maps 70 and 71
This route takes in many quiet roads and has two cafe stops, one in Mauchline and
one in Ayr. The busier bits in Auchinleck, Cumnock and Ayr can be bypassed on
minor roads .
Mossblown has convenient parking at MR408243 and the route is mainly self
evident on the landranger maps 70 and 71.
The cafe at Mauchline is left 200m on the busy A76 in the little garden centre at
the edge of town and the route continues on the right another 200m further out of
the town.

There are three options at Auchinleck one to the east on minor roads avoiding
the towns but is a little longer, or through the towns and out onto the B7046 off
the A70, or out the Ochiltree B7036 going left just after passing below the A76.
This last is a rough track to the A70 where you go right 200m then left beside a
cottage onto another rough track up to the B7046 Skares road.
Ayr can be bypassed by turning right at MR355177 and following the minor
roads to Coylton, left and right at Coylton to join the B742 at MR 424210.
The cafe in Ayr is at Doonfoot just as you cross the A719. from here go down
the lane behind the cafe to the pronenade, following it all the way to the river and
the south harbourside. Follow the north side of the river all the way out of town
to the A77 where you can get below the very busy road at the south side of the
road bridge across the river this is signed as a cycleway out to Auchincruive.
At Oswald bridge follow the river passing Oswald hall but keep to the riverside,
through a stile, then steps, then a short rough bit, then turning away from the
river, more steps to a bigger track, cross it go through a metal gate following the
burn on your right back to the start.
This part of the riverside can be bypassed on the road round to Annbank and
Mossblown. I don't recommend the B743 as it is quite busy with fast traffic.
