Loch Thom
Distance 75km climb 400m

There is a rough section of about 4km
through to Loch Thom from the B788.
I started this route from West Kilbride
but it could be started from Dalry,
Kilbirnie or Lochwinnoch.
The route is fairly direct except from
Kilbirnie I feel it is worthwhile following
the cycle route to Lochwinnoch to avoid
the main road traffic and also from Fairlie
on the A78 it is worth following the cycle
route to West Kilbride and also using the
road along Largs front after the pier, it is
quieter and more scienic then the main
The turn off to the rough track to Loch
Thom is just after the white sign ‘Jesus
is lord of all’ on the B788.
The longest climb is out of Lochwinnoch
toward Kilmacolm it seems to go on and
There are several café stops on route at
Lochwinnoch, Kilmacolm (small detour)
and at Cornalees bridge beside Loch
Thom (detour and summer), and of
course Largs.
