Kilbirnie hill track Landranger map 63
Last Friday (Jan 2nd) on a beautiful crisp clear morning, Jim, Brian, Tom and I revisited the
hill track north of Kilbirnie.
It was only a short section of the whole route we did but I thought it would be good to
describe the whole thing here.. There is a shorter alternative from Lochwinnoch click here
and an extended route including Misty Law click here.
Parking can be had on the A760 on the Largs side of Kilbirnie.
MR 314546 Landranger 63 is the start
track up past Moorpark and left at
Baillieston past North Auchinhove and
only if the weather has been dry for a
period go left at Holehouse and up to Plan
at MR 305571, otherwise go straight on
to Ladyland entrance MR 323575.
Thats the warm up section done, now
the off road begins fron Plan North East
to Glengarnock Castle, crossing the
Garnock at the weir near the castle, up
to the track near the castle and down to
the tarmac following the Garnock.
Go east to Ladyland entrance MR 323575,
throught the iron gates and right after 200m
follow the track up Lamb Hill past Cockston
then down to the bridge over Maich water.
The route goes up the east side of Maich
Water beyond Lairdside hill and then right at a
junction round a sometimes muddy track to
Linthills MR 344599.
Descend to Lochwinnoch and along to Castle Semple Water Park where there is a little
cafe for snacks. Return to Kilbirnie by the cycle track along the old railway, sign posted
from Castle Semple Watersports Centre.
