The alteration to the A77 has tranformed what was once busy roads into relatively quite
enjoyable cycling roads where the great views can be enjoyed in relative peace.
From Dalry the route is 68km but from Stewarton it is at least 20 km shorter.
From Dalry follow the B707 to Stewarton (1km on the A736).
From Stewarton (cafe) go north on the B769 which is quiet during the day, at Windy Yet
(MR479507) fork right on a lovely minor road over to the old A77 (now quiet) fork right off
the A77 after 1km crossing the new road and at the second roundabout go right to
At Eaglesham there is a snack bar at the shops on the left if you fancy a refreshment.
Take the early right turn to avoid the traffic lights and climb through Eaglesham out to the
B764 which is now much quieter although still has the occasional fast car.
Join the old A77, left to Fenwick take the Galston road and right at Waterside to Fenwick,
and then to Kilmaurs on the B751, minor roads to Cunninghamhead, Torrenyard, Benslie,
leaving the B785 1 km after Benslie at a sharp left bend to go north past North Fergushill,
Burrowland, crossing the B778 near Lylestone, and back to Dalry past Blair mill.
If returning to Stewarton from Kilmaurs go a little way up the A735, at the top of the town
fork left onto a minor road over the B769 past Chapletoun house then right to Stewarton.
