West Island way - Bute
Bute has developed a very nice two day
walk from south to north neatly split at
Rothsay for an overnight.
It is well signposted and needs little
explanation. There is a leaflet covering the
walk availble from Rothsay tourist
information.
My wife and I did the south section with a
walking group but had to return later in the
year to do the north part.
Wemyss bay station
The route starts with a bus trip to
Kilchattan then follows the coastline to
St Blane's church, a beautiful spot, and
back to Kilchattan.
Cal Mac ferry Rothsay
From Kilchattan the path goes
along the north of Suidhe
plantation to Stravanan bay
and north onto the moor
crossing to Rothsay via
Scoutag moor track track.
My wife and I did the north end walk in
reverse, taking a taxi to Rhubodach, this
eliminated the road walk back to
Rothsay.
From Rhubodach there is a forest track
up to Glenmore hill and a rough section
down to Glenmore, a bit of road to the
west edge of Port Bannatyne and a
climb over Westlands to Rothsay.
