Failford landranger 70

Distance 5km

4km west of Mauchline on the B743. Parking is
available in the lay-by at the east end of the
Bluebells at Failford
From the lay-by walk west toward Ayr about 100m. You should see the sign for the nature
reserve just as the road begins to rise at the west end of the village. Go down the small track
over the small wooden bridge and beside the river Ayr. Go up the steps and join the more
defined track which then descends again to the river side. If you stick to the riverside the track
ends below Pedens cave and you will need to return to take what would have been the right fork
away from the river. The track rises up the steep bank and continues along the top of the gorge
for a further 250m where you are faced with a decision (fork) take the right fork which stays
high for the next 300m then descends left down to the river. From here you are on the return leg
and ascend back to the previous decision point retracing your steps back to the start.
