The River Ayr Way
Distance 67km negligible climb
This official walking route was opened in
June 06 it follows the River Ayr from
source to sea on layed track.
The start is on the north side of Glenbuck
reservior and is marked by a wooden hide
over the Loch MR755288 on Landranger
71. I walked the route in one long day of
17 hours stopping off in Catrine, the half
way point, for breakfast and Stair Inn for
Navigation should present no difficulties as the route is waymarked.
The highlight of the way is the
near Mauchline, the setting at Stair is
lovely and pedens pulpit near Failford is worth the short detour and the walk by the river
is also very nice.
The river trail cut out of the rocks near Annebank makes pleasant walking, and arrival at Ayr south
harbourside rounds off the walk nicely.
