Greenan to Brig O'Doon
Distance 9km climb100m
Park at Greenan castle car park by going right at the last roundabout into Doonfoot
and second left to the parking.
If the tide allows walk along the beach below Greenan otherwise take the cycle track behind
Greenan. Beyond Greenan leave the beach by a gate and climb across the field to a cottage.
Follow the cycleway south toward the masts on the hill. Cross the main road (A719) and go
along the lane through Burton farm and after the bend go right through a metal gate onto a
track along the edge of a field and then right uphill.
When the trees end go left steeply up a track, it bends left and crosses the lower part of a field
climb a little as you need to find a gate at the top of the gorge, go through the gate and follow
the grassy track along a fence to a gate, turn down away from the gate and follow the track
which swings right past a pond eventually to a tarmac road, go left down the road and exit
eventually onto the B7024. Take care as there is no footpath on this road.
Pass two driveways and then just after the third is a little tramac path leading below a bridge to
the Old Brig O'Doon. Cross the brig and go left to the main road, right past the entrance to
Tam O Shanter Experience (good tea room), then left away from the main road down Shanter
way, through the path at its end and immediately left down to the river. Follow the path by the
river out to Greenfield Avenue facing the golf course, go left along the Avenue past Belleisle
entrance to a T junction where there is a shop and nice tea room. Go down the lane to the
right of the shop and cross the river back to the start.
