Mull railway
Tom and I spent two very sunny September days on Mull. We left the car at the north end
of Oban in the free car park signposted to the left at the edge of town and caught the cal
mac noon ferry for the 45 minute trip to Mull.
We cycled from Craignure clockwise on the south side of the Island to Salen and then up to
Tobermory for the night at the Youth Hostel, from here we cycled the very hilly north end
anticlockwise to Salen and back to the ferry.
Both days were quite hard as there are a number of long climbs up to 250m but the views
are great and the roads quiet at this time of year especially on the north loop. There are not
many cafe stops so we carried our lunch, although the little cafe in Salen was just great on
both days. The standard of service in the two Tobermory pubs we were in was abysmal but
we did eventually get our well deserved drinks.
