This route can be combined with a Loch Ossian circuit staying at the Youth Hostel to give a fabulous (tough) two day route.
Lochaber circular - landranger 41
Route in brief 75km 800m climb and descent with some very remote single track. A dry weather only route its very rough, remote and a very long way with a paddle across the river at Luibeilt..
I did this route while my son was practicing for a down hill course. Within about 15 minutes of me leaving on this route he had demolished his bike and had to sit about for the next five hours till I returned.
From the Aonach Mor ski lift parking follow the forest track behind (south) the lift this takes you below the gondolas. Go east 5km and turn north past Leanachan then after about a kilometre go right at the crossroads and right again at the next junction. This leads down to the Cour burn, follow this 2 km south and cross the burn over an old bridge which is easy to miss (GR 237785). Continue south 1 km to the better forest road and turn left. Join the Larig Leacach track at GR 253794. Climb 7km to the bothie at GR 282737. Beyond the bothie the track forks and the right hand should be followed for 4 km up to the bealach between Stob Ban and Meall Mor, then down 3 km to Luibeilt. This track is 90% rideable and is thoroughly enjoyable if you have reasonable skill. From Luibeilt follow the landrover track 10 km and go round above Kinlochleven to join the West Highland Way. Continue on the west Highland Way until the tarmac road is joined. Follow the tarmac road all the way to Fort William. Cycle through Fort William and leave the A82 into the Alcan works going left near the level crossing on to a track, pass some buildings to your right then into the forest all the way to the gondola car park.
