Lanfine     Landranger 70&71
Route in brief
20km, 300m climb, easy roads and tracks 1/2 km push to view point.
Parking  is easy after turning right off the A71 in the centre of Newmilns along the riverside on the
tarmac road. Start eastward beside the river. After 1 1/2 km go through the gate and  into Lanfine.
Climb to the bridge over the gorge (1km) and take the small dirt track on the left side of the bridge
before crossing. Go left at the main track (200m) and right at the minor tarmac road. Turn left uphill
off the minor road at a cottage (Gullyhill). Follow this track up past Hill and take the right fork into
the woods (still climbing).
The track through the woods is very pleasant. When there is a choice of tracks at a burn take the
upper one. Follow this  to the end of the woods (last section is a bit overgrown), and when emerging
go left uphill over a fence and along the edge of the field to the viewpoint. Descend at speed to
Galston. Climb from Galston on the A719 past Loudon Castle Park about 1km and turn east onto a
rough track. Exit the track returning to Newmilns and the start on minor roads.
Lanfine variation1 (extra singletrack)
This variation marked with blue dots starts at Loudoun Church and follows the same route  to Lanfine
but takes the rough track past Richardton farm and down into the wooded area above Lanfine and
then takes the singletrack at MR 517355 down into Galston but this is a walkers route so take it very
carefully At the A71 north of Galston go left at the roundabout and in 300m go right through the
barriers onto singletrack to Loudoun Kirk and the start.

Variation 2 (GPX2)
There are many tracks around this area my most recent variation is viewable
through GPX2 and has extra rough singletrack starting at MR 558354 running
west along the south edge of the forest. More worthwhile singletrack is to be
had from west of Cairnhill at MR522344 but go right in the wood asap to get
the best from it.
