Dundonald and Kilmaurs
A figure of eight loop of 60km passing three
castles and with two cafe stops
This route follows quiet
roads and a section of the
Kilmanock Irvine cycle way.
Start at Eglinton Country
park on the south east side
Exit Eglinton onto the path
beside Kilwinning road and
go right on to the minor road
NE to the B785 and to the
A736, right and left 50m
following the minor road to
the B769 at MR 364411.
Right and left to
South to Crosshouse, cross
the B7081 then turn off right
onto the minor road (MR
393382 to Milton Viaduct
and Gatehead.Go south on
the A759 for 400m and left
just after the river.
In 3km go right just before the B7038 continuing
alont the minor/B road to symington. Go right in
Symington across to Dundonald. There is a cafe
stop (Easter - October) at the castle centre.
From Dundonald go north through Dreghorn going
over the river and right after going below the A71.
You can leave the road on the left on a narrow
tarmac path leading up to the round about on the
go straight across the B road down to another round about and join the cycle way on the east side
leading in 3km to Knockintiber, leave it here going right into the village, left and immediately left again to
Altonhill farm MR420400. Cross the A735 and enter Kilmaurs on the B751 from the east. There is a nice
cafe in Kimaurs 150m left at the crossroads.
Leave Kilmaurs west and at MR401414 go right crossing the B769 at Langlands Farm, go left after the
Annick water bridge crossing the A736 at Torranyard (MR357440). Right at Benslie and at the start of
the housing in Kilwinning go left down to the main road and back into Eglinton park.
