Mountain biking Devils Staircase Rannoch Moor and Glencoe         GPX
Distance 67km 800m climb
Route map
It is better to start this route later in the day so that the traffic in Glencoe is lighter for the
return section.
I had a fancy to cycle this route for a long time so during a dry spell in July 05 I drove up to
Forest lodge west of Bridge of Orchy where I left the car at the car park just prior to the
Lodge. Rannoch moor is a boneshaker on a hardtail so this section can be missed by starting
at Kingshouse.

Navigation is easy, follow the old road and West Highland way to Kingshouse and
Kinlochleven.
The track from Kingshouse to the Devils Staircase east of the main road is great and well
worth doing out and on the return.
The Devils Staircase is mainly a walk  but the descent to Kinlochleven is fabulous, although
the path makers have done cyclists no favours with their ditch drains across the trail
especially near the top, what a damn shame.
There is an opertunity for refreshments in Kinlochleven in the Tailrace pub.
The B863 along the south of Loch Leven is scenic so relax and enjoy it before the Glencoe
climb.
Go through Glencoe village on the minor road past the Clachaig Hotel, and in Glencoe leave
the main road right for the firm track just after Achtriochtan, using this track you can relax
and watch the scenery away from the traffic, also further up again 600m after The Study,
leave the main road left at a sharp bend and climb up above the road.
Further along you can leave the main road left again but this time the track can be very
boggy so if the road is quiet you may decide to stay with it.
At the Devils Staircase rejoin the West Highland way to return the way you came.
