Costa Blanca March 06
This visit was to the Jalon valley staying in the pretty village of Alcalali.
The village is a good centre from which to reach some of the surrounding walks shown in the
Cicerone guide volume 2 by Bob Stanfield.
We stayed at the lovely B&B 'Casa Almar'
run by two english chaps, I highly
recommend the establishment, it is in the
village only a short distance to a shop,
restuarants and street parking.
The best walk of the week was
undoubtedly the Bernia circuit (walk 5)
absolutely fabulous views, good tracks
and Bernia Fort (below) on route.
We tackled Rates
(walk23), it was nice
although a little
overgrown, then Pic De
Ferrer- stick to the west
side of the hill as the east
side is very overgrown.
Tossal De Vaquero is a
lovely walk (No 19),
although we were off
Route 31, Penon De
Mediadia we abandoned
due to poor description
Although the road section is fine, if a little dull.
Walk 21 in the book we completed (out and back) and found the return nice as the view was more
open but overall not that great.
The last days walk we abandoned due to undergrowth, this was walk 24, however it was Saturday
and Jalon market was in full swing so we spent an hour browsing before heading back for a shower
and return to the airport for the flight (Flyglobespan) back home.
If you are looking for cheap car hire from Alicante airport Auriga are good.
