Route in brief 23km, 250m climb, well
surfaced forest road and tarmac, some breaks
in trees and harvesting give views.
If you wish to visit the windfarm on Windy
Standard go second right at Swares brae out
and back (MR587010) or as shown by the red
arrows on the map above.
Access is from the A713, 8 km south of Dalmellington past Meadowhead and Lamford.
Parking is easily found.
The only difficulty to be found in the route is near the beginning where the track has many
Cross Water of Deugh turn left, 200m turn right uphill, 300m turn right downhill.
After 1 1/2 km there is an open area to the left.
Continue uphill 1km and turn left contour round the hill 5km enjoy an occasional view to the
north then descend to the river going left to Moor.
Follow track and tarmac to the starting point.
A variation on the above is to start at Glen Afton, crossing the high ground on Black Hill and
following the forest track to Moor as the starting point of the loop.
This adds 12 km and 40m climbing to the route described above. A parking area is available
just below Afton reservoir.
