Diary entry Bute May 05
Wemyss Bay peir click for web info on Dunoon
Distance 90km climb 300m
This was a CTC trip starting at Wemyss
Bay early to miss the traffic as we cycled
up to the Gourock Cal Mac ferry. The
three ferry crossing cost seven pounds.
Wemyss Bay station
A glance into the railway station is
worthwhile as it is well kept and striking.
Cloch lighthouse
On route to Gourock we past Cloch
Lighthouse on its picturesque setting on the
Clyde coast.
Dunoon ferry crossing
The ferry crossing to Dunoon crosses the geological
fault and we were in the highlands when we arrived
at Dunoon.
Sandbank fuelling stop. Click for Ayrshire CTC info
There were many cyclists that day and is
seemed all of them stopped at the store in
Sandbank before the cycle up Loch Eck
Whistlefield on Loch Eck
Sunday morning up Loch Eck on the
A815 was pleasantly quiet so I think it is
a good time for the route
Strachur tea room
The tea room at Strachur seemed like a
natural stopping point for tea and cakes
but it did get a bit overrun when the large
group arrived.
Colintraive ferry
Kyles of Bute
We took the quiet scienic route along the side of Loch
Riddon through Fearnach this avoided the nasty long
climb on the main road and is more scienic with
views into the Kyles of Bute.
The short ferry crossing at Colintaive was lovely
This is a favouite sailing area and is always busy in
the summer.
Rothsay from the ferry
Port Bannatyne
We had a bit of a headwind into Port Bannatyne and Rothsay but there was the reward of a
pint of beer before the fery crossing and more tea and cakes on the ferry, great stuff.
